60 years old? Not yet a senior citizen

One expected the budget to bring down the age from the present 65 years to 60 years. The revenue secretary- Mr.Chandrasekhar was quizzed as to why it was not done. His answer was that there were other schemes to benefit the senior citizen!

Its strange that when the life expectancy of indians is between66 and 69 years, the govt considers only those who have reached 65 as senior citizens. Maybe the govt. doesn't want many people to enjoy senior citizen benefits for long.
